The Rivers State Police Command on Thursday paraded a fake police inspector, Fred Monday, who led a notorious armed robbery syndicate operating across Rivers, Delta, Edo, and Akwa Ibom states.

Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, said while arresting five suspected cultists, police encountered Fred Monday, who was dressed in full police camouflage and wore the rank of an Inspector of Police.

He was armed with an AK-47 rifle, ten magazines, and 29 rounds of live ammunition.

Upon interrogation, Monday, a 31-year-old from Wiyakara Community in Khana Local Government Area, confessed to impersonating a police officer.

Disu said the suspect, in his confessional statement, disclosed that he purchased the rifle in 2021 for N850,000 from an accomplice named Goodluck, also known as Boy-J.

He also bought police uniforms, magazines, ammunition, and hand grenades from the same source, the police boss said.

“Monday further confessed to using his fake identity to provide security cover for members of the Vikings Confraternity during their cult initiation ceremonies in Khana,” Disu said.

In a related development, the command also paraded suspects involved in the murder of Chief Ndidi Livingstone, the Chairman of the Community Development Council (CDC) of Mgbuoshimini in Obio Akpor Local Government Area.

Chief Livingstone was shot dead on January 13, 2024, in front of his church in Port Harcourt.

Four men had dragged him out of the church and shot him in the presence of his family and congregants.
