Nyesom Wike, Siminalayi Fubara and President Bola Tinubu
Fayose Claims Presidency Told Wike to Respect Fubara or Risk Losing Job
Fresh details have emerged from a closed-door meeting between President Bola Tinubu and key political figures in Rivers State, shedding light on efforts to resolve the long-running tension between Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
The meeting, held on Sunday night, aimed to calm political unrest in the state, but for days, the outcome remained unclear. None of the participants publicly commented on the discussions, fueling widespread speculation about the direction of Rivers State politics.
On Tuesday, businessman and political commentator Isaac Fayose broke the silence, claiming that the Presidency warned Wike to stop interfering in Governor Fubara’s administration. According to Fayose, President Tinubu emphasized that Fubara is the political leader of the ruling party in Rivers State and must be respected, stressing the need for cooperation and unity.

Fayose said the warning was explicit, urging Wike to work with the governor and avoid actions that could deepen the political crisis. “I learnt that the Presidency has warned Wike to leave Fubara alone. I told you people that Fubara is not going anywhere. They told Wike that Fubara is the leader of their party in Rivers State and that he should carry him along or else he may lose his job. Those who know Wike should warn him very well, I don’t want to visit him in Kuje prison like Emefiele,” Fayose stated in a video shared on his social media.
Political observers note that the warning signals President Tinubu’s determination to restore order in Rivers State and reinforce party hierarchy. The message underscores the importance of party unity ahead of upcoming elections and reflects the president’s ongoing role in mediating disputes between key figures in the state.
The development comes amid months of tension between Wike and Fubara, which have at times disrupted governance and threatened party cohesion. While Wike has maintained a strong political presence in the state, the warning from Tinubu indicates the president’s preference for stability and deference to the governor as the ruling party’s principal leader in Rivers State.
As the political landscape in Rivers continues to evolve, analysts suggest that the resolution of this crisis could be a pivotal factor in the state’s governance and electoral outcomes, with the president’s intervention seen as a decisive effort to prevent further escalation.
