FCT Motorists Urge Dangote to Expand MRS Outlets as Petrol Sells at N739 Per Litre

FCT Motorists Urge Dangote to Expand MRS Outlets as Petrol Sells at N739 Per Litre

Motorists in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have appealed to the Dangote Refinery to increase the number of its partner retail outlets to improve access to cheaper petrol, following the recent reduction in pump price.

The Dangote Refinery recently named MRS Oil as its official partner to dispense petrol at N739 per litre nationwide, a price significantly lower than rates offered by other major marketers. As of Tuesday, NNPC Retail sold petrol at N835 per litre, TotalEnergies at N920, Conoil at N910, Eterna at N889, and AYM Sharfa at N840.

Despite the price advantage, findings across Abuja showed that MRS filling stations are few, limiting motorists’ ability to benefit from the reduced price. At the MRS outlet in Katampe, along the AYA–Gaduma–Asokoro Road, pump prices were not displayed, while long queues persisted days after the announcement. The station reportedly stops selling petrol at 7:00 p.m. daily, further constraining access.

Similarly, along the Nyanya–Karshi Road, only one out of three MRS outlets was selling petrol at N739 per litre, with the remaining stations dispensing fuel at N910 as of Tuesday.

Speaking at the MRS station along Airport Road, a civil servant, George Anosike, urged the refinery to partner with more marketers to widen distribution.

“MRS stations are very few in Abuja. If more stations sell at this price, more people will enjoy the Dangote petrol bonanza,” he said.

Another motorist, Joachim Jimbiri, said the price cut reflects the promise of local refining but stressed that Nigerians expect even lower prices.

“This is when we are beginning to see the real benefits of the Dangote Refinery. Nigerians want the refinery to succeed, but we must feel the impact. Petrol should not cost more than N500 per litre in a country with abundant crude oil and a functional refinery,” he said.

Consumers expressed hope that Dangote Refinery would respond by expanding its partner station network across the FCT, allowing more Nigerians to benefit from the reduced petrol price.
