FCT Police Debunk Alleged Assassination Attempt on Navy Officer After Clash With Wike
The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has dismissed viral reports claiming that Nigerian Navy officer Lt. A.M. Yarima narrowly escaped an assassination attempt days after his confrontation with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
An online publication alleged that unidentified men in two unmarked Hilux vehicles trailed the officer from a filling station along the Expressway to Gado Nasco Way around 6:30 p.m., prompting him to execute a “strategic manoeuvre” to evade the suspected assailants. It further claimed that investigators were probing the matter “with the seriousness it deserves.”

However, the FCT Police Command, through spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh, denied the report, stating:
“No such incident has been reported or recorded anywhere within the Federal Capital Territory. The public is advised to disregard this false information and desist from spreading unverified claims capable of causing unnecessary panic.”
The Command urged residents to remain alert and report suspicious activity via emergency numbers 08032003913 and 08068587311.
When contacted, the Nigerian Navy said it would issue a response, but none had been released as of press time.
The controversy comes after a recent confrontation between Minister Nyesom Wike and Lt. Yarima during an operation in Abuja, where the officer insisted he was enforcing a lawful directive to protect a disputed property. Following the incident, a coalition of retired military veterans threatened to occupy the FCTA headquarters if the officer was punished.
