FCT police recover huge firearms from suspect after shooting incident

Police operatives in Federal Capital Territory, FCT, have recovered an array of weapons from the residence of 33-year-old Obinna Nwigwe after he was arrested for shooting one Andrew Philemon at guest house in Bwari area of the capital city.

FCT Police Command spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, in a statement said Nwigwe was arrested on 26 December, following a report of a shooting incident at Najob Guest House, Bwari.

“On December 26, 2024, police officers responded to a distress call from Najob Guest House in Bwari, where gunfire had been reported.

“Upon arrival, they discovered 29-year-old Andrew Philemon bleeding from critical injuries,” Adeh said in the statement. She added that upoh his arrest, Nwigew told police operatives that he he shot Philemon in self-defense following a heated argument. But at the time of the incident, he was armed with a pump-action rifle.”

The Police spokesperson revealed that subsequent search at the residence of Nwigwe yielded an alarming array of weapons, including five Dane guns, one English-made single barrel gun, an AK47 magazine containing 29 rounds of 7.62 live ammunition, four live cartridges, 17 expanded cartridges, bow with arrows, carious knives, a sword stick, and a toy gun, a taser and a bulletproof jacket and multiple sets of police uniforms and boots.

“Andrew Philemon is currently receiving treatment at the National Hospital, while Obinna Nwigwe is expected to face charges once the investigation concludes,”

Adeh also revealed in the statement that police also recovered a vehicle belonging to 45-year-old Onyeka Vincent that was stolen while parked outside Saint Louis Catholic Church in Byazhin area of the FCT.

“Prompt investigative efforts led officers to Suleja, where they found the stolen vehicle in the possession of 45-year-old Evans Omagba.

“During questioning, Omagba confessed to the theft and revealed that he had acted with the help of three accomplices who are still at large. Additionally, police recovered two more stolen vehicles from Omagba, highlighting the ongoing challenge of vehicle theft in the area.”

“The Commissioner of Police for the FCT underscores the critical role of community involvement in enhancing safety. He advises residents to install Security devices in their vehicles to deter car theft and to aid in the swift recovery of stolen property.

“The safety and security of our community rely on the active participation of all citizens. We urge everyone to report any suspicious activities to the police,” he stated.

“These recent incidents reflect the ongoing commitment of the FCT Police Command to uphold public safety and maintain law and order across the Federal Capital Territory. As investigations progress, authorities remain dedicated to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring the well-being of residents,” Adeh concluded.
