Festac DPO, Matilda Ngbaronye, dies after surgery — Lagos police mourn
The Lagos State Police Command has been thrown into mourning following the death of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Festac Division, CSP Matilda Ngbaronye, who passed away on Friday after undergoing surgery at Mayriamville Medical Centre, Bode Thomas, Surulere.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the Command’s spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, the police described her death as a profound loss, hailing her as an exemplary officer who embodied professionalism, discipline, and integrity.

“The Command mourns the loss of a truly upright and dedicated officer who served with unwavering professionalism and integrity,” the statement read. “Her friendly disposition and humane approach to policing greatly helped to bridge the gap between the Police and the public she dutifully served.”
The Commissioner of Police, Olohunnare Jimoh, alongside officers and men of the Command, expressed deep sorrow over her passing and extended condolences to her family, including her aged mother.
The statement added that the Commissioner had personally reached out to Ngbaronye’s husband and elder brother, a priest, to convey the Command’s heartfelt sympathy and support during this difficult time.
Burial arrangements, according to the Command, will be announced in due course.
“May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace,” the statement concluded.
