FG announces 21-day closure of Ijora-Marine Bridge in Lagos

By Dada Jackson

The Federal Ministry of Works has announced a plan to close the Ijora-Marine Bridge in Lagos for 21 days.

The closure would begin on Sunday May 18, 2025, from 7am.

It said this in a statement issued on Tuesday, disclosing that the closure was to carry out critical repair works on the road.

According to the Federal Controller of Works, Lagos, Engr. Olukorede Keisha, the closure will be full at some sections of the bridge and partial at other sections.

This critical project aimed to improve road safety and enhance the driving experience of motorists, she added.

The work, the federal controller said, would involve lifting the entire bridge deck to change the faulty bearings beneath, amongst other repair works.

This is expected to ensure a smoother, safer roadway.

The ministry said it had carefully worked on diversion routes and traffic management.

Residents and businesses within the closure zone were urged to plan accordingly.

It said appropriate signage and traffic control measures would be in place to guide drivers and pedestrians.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation as we work to improve our infrastructure,” the ministry said.
