FG Directs Abuja Secretariat Workers to Stay Home Ahead of APC Convention
The Federal Government has directed civil servants working within the Federal Secretariat in Abuja to work from home on Friday, March 27, 2026, as part of measures to manage anticipated disruptions ahead of the national convention of the All Progressives Congress.
The directive, which was communicated through official channels on Thursday, is aimed at easing vehicular movement and ensuring security in the nation’s capital as thousands of party delegates, supporters, and political stakeholders are expected to converge on Abuja for the high-profile event.
Sources within the civil service said the decision was taken in consultation with security agencies and relevant authorities responsible for traffic and public safety. The move is expected to reduce congestion around the Federal Secretariat and adjoining areas, which often experience heavy gridlock during major national gatherings.
Officials noted that the work-from-home arrangement is a temporary measure designed to ensure the safety and convenience of government workers while allowing security operatives to effectively manage the influx of visitors and maintain order across key parts of the city.
“As part of efforts to guarantee smooth operations during the convention, staff are advised to perform their duties remotely and remain accessible through official communication channels,” a senior government official said.
Security presence is expected to be intensified across strategic locations in the Federal Capital Territory, with possible road diversions and restrictions around venues linked to the convention. Motorists and residents have also been advised to plan their movements accordingly to avoid delays.
The national convention of the All Progressives Congress is one of the party’s most significant political gatherings, where critical decisions regarding leadership structure, policies, and future electoral strategies are typically taken.
Normal activities at the Federal Secretariat are expected to resume after the conclusion of the convention.
