FG issues travel alert for Nigerians planning to visit UK
The Federal Government has issued a travel alert to Nigerian citizens planning to go to the United Kingdom.
In a statement signed by the spokesperson for the Minister of Interior, Amb. Eche Abu-Obe, the government called attention to the risk of increased violence over the recent riots in the UK.
“There is an increased risk of violence and disorder occasioned by the recent riots in the UK,” it said.
The notice urged Nigerian citizens travelling to the UK to be “extra vigilant and take measures”.
Nigerians are urged to avoid political processions, protests, rallies, marches, crowded areas and large gatherings.

The travel alert came in the wake of rioters in the UK breaking into hotels sheltering asylum seekers on Sunday as the nation deals with its worst unrest in recent times.
CNN reports that the rioters set the hotels on fire in a development triggered by the stabbing of three young girls in Southport, northwest England, earlier in the week.
On Sunday, the protesters vandalized and torched two Holiday Inns in northern England.
One of the buildings set ablaze was in Tamworth, which had previously been criticized by a local politician for housing asylum seekers, and another in Rotherham.
