The Federal Government has released N5.2bn for the construction of houses for victims of Boko Haram insurgency in troubled Borno State.
Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, stated this during an assessment of 1,000 housing units for returning IDPs on the outskirts of Maiduguri.
He said the released funds were for the building of 10,000 houses for 1.7 million IDPs expected to return to their communities.
The IDP returnees are in camps in Maiduguri, Dikwa, Monguno, Dolori and three border communities with Cameroon.
The governor recalled the state government had last year asked for the construction of housing estates for the IDPs.
He commended President Muhammadu Buhari for approving the funds for the building of the housing units.
According to him, the houses on completion will ensure full resettlement of 1.7 million IDPs to their ancestral homes destroyed by insurgents.
He also said that the ongoing Dalori housing project was an intervention from the Federal Government.
The governor said, “Because of the integrity of this government, the Federal Government has directed the release of funds to the state government to undertake the housing projects.”
