FG to introduce CCTV control room on highways
By Dada Jackson
The Federal Government has introduced CCTV Control Rooms on the highways to detect promptly and attend to emergency situations and enhance security across the country.
Minister of Works, Mr David Umahi, stated this while conducting members of the National Assembly Joint Committee on Works on inspection facility as part of their oversight function to federal road projects in Lagos.
Umahi said the solar-powered pilot project, located at Adeniji axis of Lagos would be expected completed in about a week.
He explained that the control room, manned by security operatives covers the entire section of the Third Mainland Bridge up to Falomo and environs with a response time of five minutes in cases of eventualities either on land or sea.
The Minister of Works said this facility would be replicated on other federal highways across the country.
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works, Senator Mpigi Barinada, and his counterpart at the House of Representatives, Mr Akin Alabi, took turns to commend the minister for the quality of work done so far on the federal roads across the country, with an appeal to Nigerians to be patient with the President Bola Tinubu-led administration, stressing that his policies are geared towards the benefit of all.
The federal legislators led by Senate Chief Whip, Onyekachi Nwebonyi, had earlier witnessed the flag-off of the 63-kilometre segment of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and stakeholders’ meeting on the alignment of the project.
