Final year student of Idahosa University dies playing football
A final year student of Benson Idahosa University, Benin, Edo State, on Tuesday reportedly slumped and died while playing football on the legacy campus’ football pitch.
The Computer Science student identified as Bruno Chigozie Ezeonye was said to have died before help could come to him.
A source blamed the medical personnel at the health facility on the campus for not quickly attending to the deceased when he was rushed there for treatment.

“When they eventually responded and needed to refer him to Faith Mediplex Hospital, an affiliate of the institution on Airport Road, the ambulance driver complained of lack of petrol in the ambulance,” the source said.
Angered by the death of their colleague, the students broke into protest, vandalised the school’s clinic and security post before they were calmed down by the president of the university, Bishop FEB Idahosa.
Daily Trust reported the institution’s Head of Communication and Brand Strategy, Temi Esonamunjor, as saying, “The university will make an official press statement on the true state of things.”
