FirstBank customers face delay on digital channels

FirstBank has announced a temporary disruption across its major digital banking platforms, leaving some customers unable to complete transactions.

In a circular issued on Thursday, the lender confirmed that the downtime is currently affecting transfers and other transactions conducted via FirstMobile, FirstOnline, and its USSD banking service (*894#).

“Please be informed that we are currently experiencing some downtime affecting transactions to other banks on FirstMobile, FirstOnline, and USSD platforms. Customers may therefore experience delayed or declined transactions,” the bank stated.

The financial institution acknowledged the inconvenience caused to its customers and assured them that its technical team, working closely with partner service providers, is actively addressing the problem.

“Our team is working with our partners to restore services as quickly as possible, and we will provide updates once services are fully restored,” the bank added.

The latest disruption comes less than two months after FirstBank unveiled a facial biometric authentication feature on its FirstMobile app.

åThe innovation was introduced to bolster customer experience and enhance security, enabling users to activate their devices without debit cards while deploying advanced facial recognition and anti-spoofing technology to prevent impersonation and fraud.

The biometric update, according to the bank, was designed to serve a wide range of customers, including new users without debit cards, diaspora clients, individuals with expired or missing cards, and card-free users.

While the bank did not specify the expected timeline for full restoration of services, it emphasized its commitment to resolving the issue and maintaining reliable digital banking channels for its millions of customers.
