Five Cabals Operating Inside Tinubu Presidency – Charles Omole Alleges

Charles Omole, a lawyer and author of From Soldier to Statesman – The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari, has alleged that there are at least five powerful cabals operating within the Bola Tinubu administration, warning of the dangers of state capture if strong institutional safeguards are not enforced.

Omole made the claim on Thursday while appearing on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he argued that although it is natural for a president to have close advisers, unchecked influence could undermine governance.

“The president will always have people around him. But you need to put systems in place to avoid state capture or presidential capture because, for example, the current government has, from what I can see, at least five cabals within the presidency,” Omole said.

According to him, one of the most striking dynamics is that President Bola Tinubu himself allegedly heads one of the cabals, based on his personal assessment.

Omole identified the first group as the Chief of Staff cabal, led by Femi Gbajabiamila, noting that it extends beyond the Chief of Staff to include key figures such as FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu.

“So, in this current administration, at least there are five groups. There is the Chief of Staff group headed by Femi Gbajabiamila,” he said.

He further listed a second group centred around Seyi Tinubu, the president’s son, comprising individuals he allegedly helped secure government appointments. Omole also pointed to a third faction associated with the First Lady, Remi Tinubu.

The author spoke shortly after the unveiling of his book in Abuja, where he examined governance patterns under former President Muhammadu Buhari, alleging that cabals played a significant role during that administration.

Drawing a comparison, Omole claimed that Buhari, despite his fondness for reading newspapers, may have been shielded from full information.

“While Buhari loved reading newspapers, there were reports that the cabal created a version of newspapers that planted stories they wanted him to read,” he said.
