Five Soldiers Killed, Several Injured in Boko Haram Suicide Bomb Attack in Borno
At least five Nigerian soldiers were killed and several others injured in a Boko Haram suicide attack targeting a military convoy in the Timbuktu Triangle area of Borno State. The assailant used a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) as troops returned from counter-insurgency operations.
Among the casualties are senior officers, including a major and a lieutenant. The blast also destroyed several armoured and logistics vehicles, temporarily disrupting ongoing military operations in the volatile northeast region.

The troops had been engaged in Operation DESERT SANITY and Operation HADIN KAI, aimed at dismantling Boko Haram and ISWAP networks. Despite recent successes, insurgents continue to target security forces and civilians using suicide bombings, ambushes, and improvised explosives.
Security analysts warn that Boko Haram and its splinter faction ISWAP remain active threats across northeastern Nigeria, highlighting the complex nature of the insurgency in the Lake Chad Basin. The Nigerian military has pledged to intensify operations to degrade insurgent capabilities and protect communities in the region.
The wounded have been evacuated for urgent medical care, while the remains of the fallen soldiers have been airlifted to Maiduguri for burial. Military sources confirmed that despite this setback, operations will continue with determination.
