The fire broke out at Abiodun Adebiyi Close, off Yidi Road, in the Irewole area of Ilorin West Local Government Area.

The swift intervention of the Kwara State Fire Service helped avert a more devastating outcome.

An eyewitness, Lanre Abdulrazaq, who was working nearby, recounted the moment the fire broke out. “We just noticed thick smoke coming from the building and immediately raised the alarm to alert people for a rescue operation,”.

“We did not know the cause of the fire but later we saw the fire service who arrived and contained the fire.”

However, the spokesman for the state fire service, Hassan Adekunle, who confirmed the fire, said the incident was caused by a five-year-old boy who was playing with matches that he unknowingly dropped on a combustible material that escalated the fire.
