Flamingos demolish Liberian U-17 women’s team
The Nigerian U-17 women’s national football team, the Flamingos, on Sunday evening roundly beat their Liberian opponents 4-1 in the first leg of the final qualifying round for the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
The Bankole Olowookere-tutored girls outclassed and outsmarted the Liberians at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Stadium in front of their dispirited home fans.
First to score for the Nigerian girls was Abidem Moshood who hit the opponents’ net in the scoring in the 19th minute.

Her teammate Peace Effiong scored the second goal for Nigeria in the 29th minute consolidating her side’s lead in the match.
Not done, the Flamingos through Harmony Chidi netted Nigeria’s third goal nine minutes before halftime.
In the second half and with 16 minutes left to full time, Blesing Ifitezue sealed the woes of the Liberians with Nigeria’s goal of the match.
The Liberian team, however, managed to pull a goal from the penalty spot in the 87th minute even if it did nothing to their fortunes in the encounter.
Nigeria will face Liberia in the reverse fixture next weekend. The match will be played at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.
