Flood sweeps away corpses from graves, submerges houses, farmlands in Edo
There is palpable anxiety as ravaging flood waters wash corpses out of graves in Udaba community of Edo state.
Udaba is one of the communities in the state affected by the flood.
Others are Anegbete, Ekperi, Osomhegbe, Ogoimeri, Iyowa, Ofukpu, Ifekhu, Agenebode, Ubiaja, Ilushi, all in Etsako East, Etsako Central and Esan South East local government areas.
The Councillor representing Udaba in ward 8 of Etsako Central local government area, Joseph Odemokpai, also confirmed that some persons have died as a result the severe cold.
According to him, “In Udaba, some dead bodies have been washed away from the grave by the flood. Some persons have even died as a result the severe cold due to the flood.

“Houses, farmlands and crops such as cassava, rice, yam, amongst others, were submerged, farm produce, livestock, property were swept away by the ravaging flood.
“The flood situation and water level is still high in the affected communities. The whole communities are ravage by flood and we are trying to move our people to the camp for safety.
“The flood situation is the same also in ward 9 and ward 10 which include, Anegbete, Udochi, Ogomere and Ifekhu, Ofukpo among other communities in all the affected local government areas.”
Odemokpai who disclosed that the local government Councils “are doing something at the moment”, however called on the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and Edo State Emergency Management Agency (EdoSEMA) to come to the aid of the communities.
