Follow-Up: How Man Calling Muslim faithful into prayer Was Murdered Inside Kano Mosque
A few days after a shocking incident rocked Kano, fresh details have emerged on how an elderly man, Ladan Zubairu, was brutally killed inside a mosque while carrying out a religious duty.
Zubairu, said to be responsible for calling Muslim faithful to prayer, was attacked on Monday morning at the Yusuf Garko Mosque in the Maraba Quarters of the city. The incident, which occurred during the early hours, sent panic through the quiet community as worshippers fled the scene in fear.
According to reports by PUNCH Metro, the assailant launched the attack within the mosque premises under circumstances that are still yet to be clearly established. Eyewitnesses described the moment as sudden and chaotic, with little opportunity for intervention before the victim sustained fatal injuries.
In the aftermath of the attack, the suspect reportedly attempted to escape but was quickly noticed by residents and worshippers in the area. An angry mob mobilised and pursued him through nearby streets, eventually catching up with him.
The suspect was subsequently beaten by the crowd in a reprisal action. He died from the injuries sustained during the mob attack before security personnel could arrive to take him into custody.
The twin killings have continued to generate concern among residents and observers, particularly over the growing trend of mob justice, which often undermines the rule of law and obstructs proper criminal investigation.
Community members in Maraba Quarters have expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the elderly man, describing him as a familiar figure devoted to religious service. They also raised alarm over the security situation, noting that such an attack in a place of worship highlights vulnerabilities that need urgent attention.
Authorities have yet to issue a comprehensive official statement regarding the incident. However, it is understood that investigations are expected to focus on both the circumstances surrounding the killing of the victim and the mob action that followed.
Residents have called on security agencies to strengthen surveillance and response mechanisms, while urging the public to refrain from taking the law into their hands.
