Four Dead, Women Tortured as Suspected Herdsmen Attack Benue Communities
No fewer than four persons have reportedly been killed, women brutally tortured, and another declared missing following an attack by suspected herdsmen on Udei and Nzorov communities in Guma Local Government Area, Benue State.
The victims were reportedly attacked while fetching firewood at Tse Nyamkume Village along the Yogbo-Udei Road on Monday evening. They had sought refuge in Udei after fleeing their homes due to escalating violence in the area.

A source revealed that Kenneth Gbayier, a native of Mbalagh, was among those targeted alongside another young man from Saawuan Gboodo Village and several women. The armed assailants reportedly opened fire and attacked victims with machetes, resulting in Gbayier’s death. The women were captured and subjected to severe torture, while the second young man escaped into the bush and remains missing.
Residents are calling on security agencies to intervene urgently to prevent further escalation. Locals have also been warned to exercise extreme caution, as movement along bush paths and rural routes has become increasingly dangerous due to persistent herdsmen attacks.
