Four killed, 12 abducted as gunmen raid Kaduna communities

Tragedy struck in Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Tuesday night as suspected Fulani armed men launched coordinated attacks on three communities — Jantsauni, Mai Doki, and Maiyamma — all located in the suburban areas of Yarkasuwa, Kurama Chiefdom.

The attackers, who reportedly struck around 10 p.m., killed four residents, injured several others, and abducted 12 people, including Rev. Istifanus Dunga, a pastor with the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA).

Confirming the incident, the National Publicity Secretary of the Federated Kurama Association, Mr. Pius Agaji Kyauta, said the gunmen stormed the villages in large numbers, shooting indiscriminately and causing panic among residents.

“The assailants came around 10 p.m. and fired sporadically. Four people were killed, while several others, including a pastor, were taken away,” Kyauta said.
“There is an urgent need for security intervention because the communities have been ravaged beyond imagination.”

A resident, whose father and younger sister were among those abducted, told reporters that the attackers surrounded targeted houses, leaving residents with no chance to escape.

“You dare not go out to run; they will just shoot you. And if you remain indoors, they will enter and take you away,” he recounted.

He added that the victims killed were young men aged between 27 and 30, noting that no ransom demand had yet been made.

The source described the attack as “an evil that has befallen the Kurama nation,” calling for both security and spiritual intervention to restore peace in the affected areas.

As of press time, security agencies had yet to issue an official statement on the attack, while residents continue to live in fear of further raids.
