Fresh Bandits’ Raid in Kwara: Two Dead in Midnight Attack

At least two people have been killed, including a woman, in a violent bandits’ attack on Gidan Sani village in the Tsaragi Emirate area of Kwara State. The incident occurred around midnight on Sunday, when assailants reportedly stormed the community and went directly to a family residence.

According to the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adekimi Ojo, the attack was part of an attempted kidnapping. The assailants reportedly targeted the house of a miner who was not at home at the time. When they attempted to abduct the father, his wife resisted, and she was fatally shot. The father also sustained a gunshot wound to the leg, while their 10-year-old daughter was injured in the leg during the attack.

“The woman later died from the gunshot wound,” Commissioner Ojo confirmed. “While the bandits were escaping, they shot another man. In all, two people lost their lives in the incident.”

The attack underscores the growing security challenges and banditry in Kwara State’s rural and border communities, where repeated assaults, kidnappings, and killings have heightened fear among residents. The violent incident has prompted renewed calls for urgent intervention by security agencies, including increased troop deployment, intelligence-led operations, and community policing, to prevent further attacks.

Residents of Gidan Sani village and surrounding areas expressed shock and fear, warning that continued bandit activity could disrupt daily life, agriculture, and local commerce. Security analysts have noted that Kwara’s border location and proximity to forested areas make such communities particularly vulnerable to armed attacks by bandits and extremist factions.

Authorities have urged community members to remain vigilant while promising that law enforcement agencies will intensify efforts to apprehend the attackers and secure the area.
