FRSC Moves to Prosecute TikTok Star Peller Over Alleged Reckless Driving, Live Streaming Incident

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced plans to prosecute popular TikTok streamer Peller, real name Habeeb Hamzat, over alleged reckless and distracted driving following a viral video showing him live streaming while driving.

The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Monday by the Assistant Corps Marshal and Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, who said the incident reportedly resulted in a road traffic crash.

According to the statement, the Corps Marshal expressed serious concern over what he described as a growing pattern of traffic law violations by celebrities, social media influencers and content creators, who prioritise online engagement at the expense of public safety.

The FRSC stressed that using a phone while driving, live streaming, recording videos or engaging in any form of content creation behind the wheel is a clear violation of traffic regulations and poses grave risks to drivers and other road users.

Consequently, the Lagos State Sector Commander has been directed to immediately commence prosecution of the individual involved for reckless driving, distracted driving and phone use while driving, in accordance with existing traffic laws.

“This incident, which could have resulted in loss of lives, is a stark reminder that fame does not place anyone above the law, nor does it justify dangerous behaviour on public roads,” the statement said.

The FRSC boss further warned that public roads are not studios or stages, noting that such conduct undermines national efforts to curb road traffic crashes and fatalities.

He also urged actors’ guilds, entertainment associations, influencer networks and content creator communities to take responsibility by educating their members on road safety and compliance with traffic laws.

Celebrities and influencers wield significant influence, especially among young Nigerians, and must be ambassadors of road safety, not symbols of recklessness,” he said.

The Corps Marshal reaffirmed that the FRSC would enforce the law without fear or favour, warning that no level of social media fame or online clout is worth endangering human lives.

“No social media content or viral trend is worth a human life,” the statement concluded.
