FRSC to prosecute truck driver in Kogi accident that claimed 13 lives
The Federal Road Safety Corps is set to prosecute drivers of vehicle that caused the death of 13 people in a multiple road crash that occured on Sunday March 31 at Obajana market in Kogi State.
Already, the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Dauda Biu, has directed Kogi State Sector Commander of the Corps to commence a detailed investigation that will lead to speedy prosecution of all the drivers responsible for the crash.
This is contained in a statement issued on Monday by the spokesman for the FRSC, Jonas Agwu.
According to Corps Marshal, with the recent collaboration between the Corps, the Nigeria Bar Association as well as state judiciaries, the drivers responsible for the crash will not go scot free.
“They are going to be prosecuted in accordance with the provisions of the National Road Traffic Regulations 2012 and those found guilty will bear the consequences of their actions,” he stated.
A total of four vehicles comprising two Dangote trucks, one Sharon bus and one motor bike were involved in the accident.
“One of the Dangote trucks breaking system failed while on excessive speed and crashed into three stationery vehicles including a bus carrying 12 passengers.
“The impact of the crash resulted in a fire outbreak that killed the 12 passengers in the bus and the motor bike rider,” the statement said.
Giving details of the 13 dead persons, the report said they comprised six male adults, three male children, three female adults and one female child.
Two other people were rescued by the FRSC operatives.
“The 13 victims whose lives were claimed by the crash were burnt beyond recognition and their corpses deposited at Specialist Hospital, Lokoja,” the FRSC said.
