Fishermen kill Hippopotamus in Kebbi river after attack

In Yauri Local Government Area of Kebbi State, 40 fishermen armed with bows and arrows have successfully killed a hippopotamus in the Yauri River.

The action was taken following an order from the State Governor, Nasir Idris, conveyed through the Emir of Yauri, HRH Zayyanu Abdullahi, after the wild animal fatally attacked one of the Emir’s workers.

The chairman of Yauri Local Government, Hon. Abubakar Shu’aibu Yauri (Abu Manaja), confirmed the incident to newsmen. He explained that the fishermen, acting on the governor’s directive, embarked on the hunt and located the aggressive hippopotamus in the river on Monday.

The animal, which had been terrorizing the area, was killed and taken to the palace of the District Head of Gungu, Kasimu Aliyu, where a large crowd gathered to witness the event.

The hippopotamus was butchered, and the meat was distributed among the local people, who expressed their gratitude to Governor Idris and the Emir for their swift action in dealing with the dangerous animal.

The successful hunt has brought relief and excitement to the Yauri Emirate, with residents praising the authorities for their decisive response.
