Fubara Breaks Silence, Accuses Wike-Aligned Lawmakers of Blocking Peace Talks

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has revealed that he has endured significant personal and political hardship due to keeping silent about his side of the story in the ongoing Rivers political crisis.

Speaking during the commissioning of the extended and dualised Ahoada–Omoku Road in Rivers West Senatorial District, executed by Julius Berger, Fubara said the project fulfilled a key campaign promise made to the people, whom he thanked for their continuous support for his administration and that of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Addressing the protracted political standoff in the state, Fubara disclosed that he has been unable to meet with the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martins Amaewhule, and other lawmakers because they insisted on attending only meetings arranged by Chief Nyesom Wike, leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The governor denied having any personal issues with state or federal lawmakers, stressing that he had made several attempts to engage them but was told such meetings must be convened by Wike — a meeting that has not been scheduled till date.

Fubara stated: “I have suffered too much because only one side of the story is being told. Many things have happened, and nobody has heard my own side. I have made efforts to meet with the Assembly members, and I am only waiting for that meeting to be fixed.”

He maintained that his decision to leave the PDP for the All Progressives Congress (APC) was driven solely by the need to restore peace and unity in Rivers State, not personal ambition.

“We can’t develop in an atmosphere of rancour. Development will not come when there is disunity,” Fubara said, adding that the state was standing firm due to the support of President Tinubu and the Renewed Hope Agenda.

He reiterated his commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy across all local government areas, assuring residents that the Ahoada–Omoku expansion was evidence of promises delivered.

Calling for reconciliation, Fubara urged political actors to prioritise the collective interest of Rivers people over personal or factional battles. “Please, we need to come together for the interest of this state. It is not about me; it is about Rivers State,” he said.
