Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Thursday said he was impressed with the performance of CIG Motor, representative of GAC Motor in Nigeria, in providing quality products, service and good job opportunities for young people in the state.
He stated this at the grand opening of an ultra-modern car showroom and unveiling of all-new GS4 in the Victoria Island of Lagos.
The governor recalled that he was recently in China with the CIG team led by its Chairman Chief Diana Chen to seal an agreement with GAC Motor for the establishment of an assembly plant in Lagos, adding that vehicle plant would be opened before the end of the year.
The governor also unveiled the newly improved award-winning GS4 Crossover SUV, which is a very popular model on Nigerian roads.
Sanwo-Olu, who said he stated using a GAC vehicle before he became the Lagos governor, declared, “The relation with the GAC is not just about buying cars; very soon we will be launching a GAC auto assembly plant in Lagos.”
He noted that the business of the company in Lagos is about creating jobs and boosting the economy of the state.
The governor described the CIG boss, Chief Chen, as a “Chinese by face but Nigerian by heart”, adding that she had remained a tenacious number one marketing officer of the brand.
Sanwo-Olu expressed delight that GAC and Lagos State Government had entered into a partnership to build an auto assembly plant expected to be commissioned this year in Ogba area of the state.
“For us as a government, we shall continue to support that enderavour,” he said.
Earlier, the governor was conducted on a tour of the newly re-built state-of-the-art GAC workshop which is located right behind the ultra-modern showroom and equipped with different sections such as Express maintenance, general repair, four wheel alignment, spray booth, metal repair, polishing and body mechanical.
In her remarks, the Chairman of CIG Motors, Chief Diana Chen said, “We are so proud to open our showroom and workshop, and we plan to open five of such facilities across the country.”
She explained that with the opening of the G-Style showroom, the company is offering the G-Elite, G-Star and G-Family packages to different segments of the society with numerous benefits.
General Manager of CIG Motors, Jubril Arogundade, explained that the GS4 which is in its second generation, came with ample leg room, three driving modes, amazing comfort and fuel economy as well as seamless navigation system.
The company had earlier signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Wema Bank, as the bank undertakes to finance another batch of 1,000 GAC units. The event was graced by top government functionaries, diplomatic corps and captains of industries.
