Game changer: Spiro makes electric motobikes more accessible in Nigeria

Game changer: Spiro makes electric motobikes more accessible in Nigeria

In a major leap towards sustainable and affordable transportation, Spiro, Africa’s leading electric mobility provider, has announced that its retail price for its flagship, Ekon electric bike, remains unchanged.

With the price pegged at ₦1,440,000 for the Ekon, Spiro says it is aimed at transforming everyday mobility for thousands of Nigerians, breaking down barriers to electric vehicle ownership.

It adds this is to make clean, efficient transport a real option for the average Nigerian rider.

Compared to traditional fuel-powered motorcycles, it says the Ekon offers up to 40% savings on fuel and maintenance, while helping users cut carbon emissions and operational costs at the same time.

The West Africa Cluster Director at Spiro, Raul Gaur, said in a statement obtained on Tuesday, “We’re making electric mobility not just a future idea, but a present-day reality.

“Our mission is to make owning an electric bike an achievable, valuable, and sustainable investment for more Nigerians.”

A smarter way to move

According to the firm, the Ekon is more than just an electric alternative; it’s a thoughtfully designed mobility solution made with Nigerian roads and riders in mind.

Whether for personal commutes or business operations, the Ekon delivers comfort, durability, and value.

Key features

100km riding range per full charge

Robust, durable frame built for urban and semi-urban terrain

Digital dashboard with speed and battery indicators

USB charging port for mobile devices

LED lights, strong brakes, and anti-theft systems

With access to Spiro’s extensive battery-swapping network—the largest in Africa—riders can swap batteries under two minutes, ensuring their journey never needs to pause for charging, the firm states.

Sustainable investment

Beyond the environment, the financial case for electric bikes is compelling. Riders save significantly on fuel and maintenance, freeing up income that can be redirected to more meaningful goals—whether it’s education, business expansion, or family support.

Spiro is not only lowering the cost of ownership but also improving the total experience through smart features like:

Real-time tracking

Geo-fencing and remote motor locking

Security alerts for theft prevention

These features ensure that riders enjoy not only a cost-effective journey, but also a secure and reliable one.

Building a greener, smarter Africa — One ride at a time

Spiro’s announcement is part of a broader vision to transform African transportation. The company currently operates in eight countries, with over 40,000 electric bikes, 800+ battery-swap stations, and more than 20 million battery swaps to date.

These efforts have already contributed to over 500 million kilometres of zero-emission travel.

With ongoing investments in local manufacturing facilities across Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda, Spiro is said to be doubling down on its goal: locally produced, affordable electric mobility—by Africans, for Africa.

With operations spanning multiple countries and a growing network of production facilities, Spiro says it is redefining transportation by making electric mobility accessible, sustainable, and scalable across Africa.
