Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf
Ganduje fires back as Kano Govt demands his arrest over alleged incitement, militia support
Former Governor of Kano State and ex-National Chairman of the APC, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has strongly condemned the call by the Kano State Government demanding his arrest over allegations of making inciting statements and backing plans for an unlawful militia group.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu, Ganduje dismissed the allegations as baseless and politically motivated. He described the government’s claim as “unfounded and irresponsible,” insisting that the accusations lacked substance and were intended to distract the public from pressing state issues.
Ganduje criticised Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for what he termed misplaced priorities at a time when several communities in the state were grappling with insecurity. He mentioned areas such as Bagwai, Shanono, and Tsanyawa, where residents have suffered repeated attacks and losses without receiving adequate attention from the government.

“It is deeply unfortunate that rather than addressing the escalating insecurity ravaging the state, Governor Yusuf has chosen to chase shadows while searching for scapegoats to conceal his glaring failures,” he said.
The former governor stressed that he had never supported violence or any action capable of destabilising Kano, adding that the allegations were meant to divert attention from the administration’s shortcomings.
He accused the governor of being disconnected from the people and failing to provide leadership during critical moments.
“His continued absence in moments that require leadership speaks volumes of his disconnect from the people he claims to serve,” the statement read.
Ganduje urged Governor Yusuf to focus on his constitutional duty of safeguarding lives and property instead of issuing what he described as baseless threats.
On Friday, the Kano State Government publicly demanded Ganduje’s immediate arrest, accusing him of making provocative remarks and supporting plans to establish an illegal militia group in the state.
