General Overseer nabbed for drug trafficking in viral video performing miracles + Video

A video showing the detained General Overseer of Christ Living Hope Church, Rev. Ugochukwu Emmanuel Ekwem, aka Daddy GO, performing intense signs and wonders in his ministry recently has since gone viral.

This comes on the heels of his arrest by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency with cannabis on his way to Kenya.

Ekwem was caught at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos as he made to leave for a crusade in Kenya via Ethiopian Airlines.

In the video now viral video, the General Overseer whose church headquarters is located in Isuaniocha, Mgbakwu Road, Awka, Awka North LGA, Anambra State, could be seen performing miracles on a crowd fell during the service.

He was seen waving his hands and people started falling down.

He was also heard asking the choir members if they needed miracles while he moved from place to place performing “wonders”.

In a statement by its spokesman, Femi Babafemi, titled: “Church General Overseer arrested with drugs at Lagos airport,” the NDLEA said when the drugs were tested, the 54 sticks proved positive to cannabis.

According to the statement, the clergyman confessed during a preliminary interview that he packed that quantity of illicit substance on his body to use during his three weeks crusade in Kenya.

DSS recovers 2,000 bags of government-donated rice in Kastina

The Department of State Services (DSS) has recovered 2,000 bags of rice from 20 trucks donated by the Nigerian government, according to reports from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

The rice, intended to alleviate economic hardship, was allegedly diverted by officials from the Katsina State government.

DSS operatives, who confirmed the recovery, chose to remain anonymous and provided no further comments.

NAN investigations revealed that the 25kg bags of rice were discovered at Katsina’s Central Market following a tip-off received on Wednesday night.

Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) Chairman, Abdulrahman Abdullahi, expressed shock and dismay over the diversion, calling for a thorough investigation and accountability.

He pledged to pursue the matter to its logical conclusion to ensure justice for the vulnerable affected by the diversion.

Local resident Suleiman Kofar-Durbi described the situation as “unfortunate,” urging the government to hold the perpetrators accountable amid the severe economic conditions.

Alhaji Shehu Usman, Chairman of the Market Traders Association, noted that the rice was brought into the market by a non-trader, urging caution among traders regarding such activities.

Responding to the incident, Aliyu Abdullahi, Principal Private Secretary to Governor Dikko Radda, clarified that the rice was allocated to the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, by the Federal Government.

The minister had instructed the Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure Development, Alhaji Nasiru Lawal, to store the rice, who opted to keep it in the market for safekeeping, amounting to 1,200 bags.

DSS: There are plans to use mass protest for govt change

The Department of State Services (DSS) says it has discovered a plot by certain criminal elements to hijack the planned mass protests to cause instability across the nation.

In a statement released on Thursday, July 25, by Peter Afunanya, the DSS spokesperson, the organisation declared the protest’s motivation as political.

It said, “The DSS has followed the discourse on planned protests in parts of the country in the coming weeks by persons and groups yet to identify themselves in public as leaders of the plot.

“While peaceful protest is a democratic right of citizens, the Service has confirmed a sinister plan by some elements to infiltrate the protest and use it to cause chaos and extreme violence in the land.

“It has also identified the reason behind the protest as political.

“The plotters desire to use the intended violent outcome to smear the federal and sub-national governments, make them unpopular, and pit them against the masses.

“The long-term objective is to achieve regime change, especially at the centre.

“The Service has also identified, among others, the funding lines, sponsors, and collaborators of the plot.

“However, it does not think that aggression should be the first line of action in handling the emerging scenario.

“It has instead, variously applied non-kinetic and conflict resolution strategies, including moral suasion, stakeholder engagement, and other multi-track diplomatic shuttles, to dissuade the planners from actualising their undesirable objective.”

The DSS also cautioned the demonstrators against engaging in anarchy of any kind for the sake of maintaining peace.

It said, “Based on the foregoing, the Service wishes to warn all the protest groups to eschew any form of proposed rage, anarchy, and spoliation.

“While the different levels of government have routinely explained their agenda to ameliorate alleged harsh economic conditions, the Service urges the prospective protesters to listen to the voice of reason and good conscience and patiently engage with the authorities in the interest of peace.

“This has become important given that violence begets the destruction of lives and property as well as serves as a distraction to governance.

“The agitators are encouraged to use ample ways available to them to channel their grievances without resorting to violence.”

“The Service calls on people of goodwill, leaders of thought, captains of industry, labour unions, student associations, youth leaders, civil society, clergy, NGOs, women’s groups, civil servants, and politicians to shun any invitation to participate in any orchestrated violence, deliberately designed to cause disaffection in the country.

“Similarly, parents, guardians, and heads of traditional and academic institutions are urged to advise their children, wards, subjects, and students not to take part in the planned protest. Let us all join hands to build a nation without rancour, bitterness, or stained banners.

“The Service will work with other sister security and law enforcement agencies to maintain peace. It will, where necessary, apply all legitimate methods to achieve this.”

Muslims condemn Nancy Isime movie over use of hijab

Nollywood actress Nancy Isime has received received condemnation from the Muslim community in Nigeria after unveiling a movie poster that features women wearing hijab and face veils holding guns in a bank robbery scene.

The Muslims have threatened to file a complaint with Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, to demand action against the account responsible for sharing what they described as “Islamophobic content.”

Reacting, one Latifat Adewunmi Jumah, with a Facebook page named Laj Fingers, expressed her dissatisfaction over the offensive posts, saying, “The niqab is not an armed robbery attire! The niqab/hijab is not an attire for concealing identity.

She queried the actress, saying, “If you needed to conceal your identity for a perfect robbery role, you could have used a nose mask or worn a mask. Why wear Islamic attire?”

“I find this offensive. Something needs to be done to stop these people. Niqab/Hijab is not a costume, nor is it a joke,” she added.

Speaking on the movie, Bashir Ahmed, former Digital Communications Assistant to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, in a statement on X on Thursday, mentioned that the niqab “should not be used as a mere costume in a movie, especially when the scenes it portrays are clearly associated with negative moral vices.”

Ahmed’s statement read, “I join my brothers and sisters to strongly protest the use of the hijab (Niqab) in an upcoming Nigerian movie produced by one Ms. Bolanle Ayo.

“The hijab is an outfit deeply attributed to Muslim women that symbolises respect, modesty, and religious devotion. And I believe it should not be used as a mere costume in a movie, especially when the scenes it portrays are clearly associated with negative moral vices.

“Using the hijab in such scenes is a profound disrespect to our mothers, sisters, and daughters. This garment is a symbol of respect, and portraying it in a manner that suggests otherwise is offensive to those who wear it for religious purposes.

“The producers of this movie should have considered alternative costumes, such as balaclavas or masks, for such scenes. For us, the hijab (Niqab) is not worn by our women to hide their identity to commit crimes but to respect, follow, and abide by the teachings of our religion.

“I join well-meaning Nigerians in calling on the producers of this movie to respect our religion and remove all the scenes where the hijab is portrayed negatively. We also urge the National Film and Video Censors Board to censor these hurtful scenes to protect the dignity of those who wear the hijab.”

In his reaction, Taiwo James said, “This was exactly what I was saying days ago. We need to respect people’s culture and religion. No matter what. Hijab is highly respected in Islam for my Muslim brothers, and we need to respect it.”

Bashir Ismail argued that the use of the hijab in such a manner would create a “negative stereotype.”

“Hijab is a sacred symbol of faith, modesty, and respect for Muslim women, and it’s disheartening to see it being used as a prop to perpetuate negative stereotypes. I stand in solidarity with the Muslim community in calling for the removal of these offensive scenes and urgin,” Ismail argues.

“Yes, I concur to the fact that hijab is a modest wear that shouldn’t in anyway be trampled upon because of its level of importance. “This video should be abolished and restricted for production,” Bagbansoro AbdulAzeez, another X user, stated.
