Gombe Governor Dismisses Aide, Three Others Over Assault on Councillor
Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has approved the immediate disengagement of a Senior Special Assistant and three other aides following an investigation into the physical assault on Hon. Abdulrahman Abubakar Sheriff, the Councillor representing Shamaki Ward in Gombe Local Government Area.
The decision followed widespread public outrage after Adamu Abdullahi Danko, a Senior Special Assistant to the Governor, was caught on camera assaulting the councillor in an alley within the Gombe metropolis. The incident drew condemnation from the public, Amnesty International, and several civil society groups, all of whom called for decisive action and accountability.
Confirming the development in a statement on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, the Director-General of Press Affairs, Gombe Government House, Ismaila Uba Misilli, said Governor Yahaya ordered that the disengagement should take immediate effect.
According to the statement, the action was conveyed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, after the findings of a special investigative committee, which were further corroborated by security agencies’ reports.

The affected aides are Adamu Abdullahi Danko (Senior Special Assistant II, Domestic), Garba Mohammed Mai Rago (Senior Special Assistant II, Political), Rabiu Sulaiman Abubakar (Senior Special Assistant II, Social Media), and Ali Ibrahim Baban Kaya (Senior Special Assistant II, Community Relations).
Governor Yahaya also directed all disengaged officers to hand over all government property in their possession to the appropriate authorities without delay.
Reaffirming his administration’s zero tolerance for violence, misconduct and abuse of office, the governor stressed that actions capable of threatening public peace or undermining confidence in government would not be condoned.
He assured the people of Gombe State of his government’s unwavering commitment to the rule of law, accountability, and peaceful coexistence, adding that decisive steps would always be taken to protect public order and sustain the state’s stability.
