Gombe Governor Dismisses Aide, Three Others Over Assault on Councillor

Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has approved the immediate disengagement of a Senior Special Assistant and three other aides following an investigation into the physical assault on Hon. The decision followed widespread public outrage after Adamu Abdullahi Danko, a Senior Special Assistant to the Governor, was caught on camera assaulting the councillor in an alley within the Gombe metropolis. The incident drew condemnation from the public, Amnesty International, and several civil society groups, all of whom called for decisive action and accountability.

Confirming the development in a statement on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, the Director-General of Press Affairs, Gombe Government House, Ismaila Uba Misilli, said Governor Yahaya ordered that the disengagement should take immediate effect.

According to the statement, the action was conveyed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, after the findings of a special investigative committee, which were further corroborated by security agencies’ reports.
