Gospel Singer Onos Brisibi Dies at 55 After Prolonged Illness

The Nigerian gospel music community and Nollywood industry have been thrown into mourning following the death of renowned gospel singer and soundtrack artiste, Onos Nancy Brisibi, who passed away at the age of 55.

Her family confirmed the sad development in a statement released on Thursday, disclosing that the singer died on March 23, 2026, after a prolonged illness.

According to the statement, the late Brisibi was a devoted Christian whose music ministry impacted countless lives across Nigeria and beyond.

“The Brisibi family announces with deep sorrow the passing of esteemed sister Onos Nancy Brisibi, who transitioned to glory on March 23, 2026, after a protracted illness,” the statement read.

Paying tribute to her life and legacy, the family described her as a gifted songstress and passionate praise and worship leader whose voice inspired many.

“Onos Nancy Brisibi was a devoted Christian, a gifted songstress, and a passionate praise and worship leader whose angelic voice touched many lives as she spread the gospel through music,” the statement added.

“She will be remembered as a beautiful, fun-loving woman with a heart of gold, whose faith, warmth, and kindness left lasting impressions on all who knew her.”

The family further noted that details of her funeral and burial arrangements would be announced in due course.

Brisibi is survived by her daughter, Sarah Brisibi, her mother, siblings, extended family members, friends, and her church family at LoveWorld Ministries.

Her death has sparked an outpouring of grief from colleagues and fans within the entertainment industry. Nollywood actress Stella Damasus expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing it as painful and praying for the repose of her soul.

Similarly, veteran broadcaster Emma Ugolee described the news as devastating, revealing that he had only recently learned about her critical condition while preparing a tribute in honour of her contributions.

Born on November 20, 1970, in Aladja, Delta State, to Ambrose Oproze and Mary Koko Brisibi, the late singer began her musical journey at the age of nine.

Over the years, she rose to prominence as one of Nollywood’s most sought-after soundtrack artistes, contributing her vocals to several acclaimed films, including Domitilla, Mortal Inheritance, Deadly Passion, Blood Money, Deadly End, and Shame.

Her distinctive voice also featured on the popular song Gra Gra by Lagbaja, further cementing her place in Nigeria’s music history.
