Gunmen abduct university students in Benue

Armed non-state actors terrorising the middle belt area of Nigeria have abducted two students in Benue State.

The kidnapped victims are students of the Joseph Sarwuan University of Agriculture, Makurdi, the State capital.

The spokesperson for the state command, Catherine Anene, confirmed the development on Wednesday.

Speaking while addressing newsmen, Anene disclosed that the female students were kidnapped at about 11 pm on Saturday.

She said, “The report we heard was that the incident happened along North Bank/Uniagric Road, Saturday night at about 11 pm.

Anene further explained that the suspected kidnappers blocked the road, attacked and took the victims before the security operatives could arrive at the incident.

The PPRO said both the family and the school authority had notified the command and investigation into the matter was ongoing.

Earlier, Benue policemen killed three suspected kidnappers and rescued two victims in the state.

The kidnappers were killed during a raid on their hideouts by a team of Operation Zenda in the early hours of Wednesday.

The suspected kidnappers were said to have abducted two people in the Ukum Local Government Area of the state and demanded N23m ransom. The victims were reportedly abducted in their homes about a week ago.
