There was commotion in Owerri in the earlier hours of Monday as gunmen attacked the federal prison and police command headquarters in the Imo State capital.
They reportedly set free some of the inmates at the prison.
There were also reports of heavy gunfire during the attack.
The police command and some vehicles parked in the vicinity were also said to have been set ablaze by the gunmen.
It could however not be ascertained the number of inmates released from the facility by the gunmen.
