Gunmen hijack bus with several passengers in Benue
Several passengers of a Benue Links bus were abducted by unknown gunmen after the assailants hijacked the bus along the Otukpo-Otukpa road in Okpokwu Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue state.
The state’s police spokesperson Superintendent (SP), Udeme Edet confirmed that the incident occured on Sunday, June 22.
Edet mentioned that the incident involved a Hummer bus with registration number 14B-143BN, which was later discovered abandoned by the roadside in Ugbokolo, located in Okpokwu LGA.

She said, “Upon receiving the distress information, police tactical teams, in collaboration with the military and the Benue State Community Volunteer Guards, swiftly mobilised to the scene.”
Edet noted that during a search operation in the nearby forest, officers were able to rescue one of the victims who managed to escape from the kidnappers.
The police spokesperson also stated that additional reinforcements have been deployed to the area to intensify the search efforts and secure the release of the remaining abducted passengers.
She finally urged the public to remain calm and to support ongoing investigations.
