Gunmen have invaded Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Zaria, Kaduna State and kidnapped a lecturer from the staff quarters with his two children from the institution.
The bandits also shot another lecturer who escaped being abducted.
Rector of the Polytechnic, Kabir Abdullahi, told journalists that the gunmen gained entry into the school around 9 pm on Saturday.
He said one of the lecturers, Bello Atiku, was abducted with two of his children.
Atiku is also the Head of the Department of Computer Engineering at the polytechnic.
The rector gave the name of the other lecturer of the school shut by the gunmen as Sanusi Hassan.
He was said to have been shot in the hand and he narrowly escaped being taken away by the bandis.
Hassan, according to the rector, is undergoing medical treatment in the hospital.
The rector said, “I was in Kaduna when the chief security officer of the college called me and informed me about the attack.
“It is true that suspected armed bandits have kidnapped one of my staff, Engineer Bello Atiku, who is the Head of Department, Computer Engineering of the school.
“He was also kidnapped along with two children to an unknown destination.”
The rector lamented that the bandits took advantage of the porous nature of the school, which had exposed the polytechnic to danger.
He said the polytechnic enjoying vast land has not been unfenced and this has exposed its occupants to a lot of hazards.
Spokesman of the Kaduna Police Command, Mohammed Jalige, said the invasion with kidnap crime was receiving maximum attention.
