Gunmen kill 10 residents, burn houses in Ebonyi community attack
At least 10 persons have confirmed killed and many houses burnt by some gunmen that attacked Amegu Nkalaha community in the Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
The attack, on Sunday morning, was said to be a reprisal by suspected herdsmen following the killing of their cows.
The attackers reportedly burnt down many houses in the community and injured many residents.
Police spokesperson in Ebonyi, Joshua Ukandu, said 10 bodies were recovered after the attack, adding that the gunmen burnt houses in the community.
He however said normalcy had been restored after the command deployed its personnel in the community.
He added that the cause of the attack was yet to be determined and that command had commenced an investigation into the incident.
“Presently, the area is calm; we got information that the community was attacked, and immediately police operatives went to the location,” Ukandu said.
He said, “Upon arrival, we saw that houses were burnt selectively. We also recovered 10 corpses from that area. At the moment our personnel are there, and normalcy is returning to the area.
“I cannot confirm the cause of the attack. But we are currently investigating to ascertain the cause of the attack.”
