Nine individuals were tragically killed, and over a dozen more sustained injuries in an attack on the Poderosa gold mine in Peru’s Pataz province.
The incident unfolded on Saturday, leaving the region reeling from this shocking act of violence.
A group of unidentified assailants, described by authorities as “armed criminals,” stormed the mine, engaging in a violent confrontation with the company’s security personnel. The motive behind the attack remains under investigation, leaving authorities and the community grappling with unanswered questions.
This tragic event marks the second major mining-related incident in Peru this year. In May, a fire at a gold mine in the southern Arequipa region claimed the lives of at least 27 workers, underscoring the inherent risks associated with mining activities.
