Gunmen have killed Christopher Dega, senior special assistant to Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue on security matters.
Dega, a retired assistant inspector-general of police, was killed on Tuesday in Jos, Plateau State.
He was said to have been shot in the chest several times by the gunmen.
Spokesperson for the governor, Terver Akase, confirmed the incident.
It is not clear yet what led to his killing as the police command in Plateau State.
In March, Ortom accused herdsmen of attempting to kill him.
Gunmen had opened fire on the governor’s convoy at Tyo Mu along Makurdi-Gboko road while he was on a visit to his farm.
The governor said the armed men, numbering about 15, trailed his convoy to the river bank where he was on foot with his security details.
