HACCS Lauds President Tinubu for Including Halal Industry in Turkey Visit

The Halal and Agrofood Compliance Certification Services (HACCS) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for recognising the halal industry as a strategic component of Nigeria’s bilateral engagements and investment discussions during his recent official visit to Turkey.

In a statement released on Friday, Dr Muhideen Amusa, Chief Executive Officer of HACCS, described the move as timely and visionary, noting that the global halal economy—which spans food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, logistics, tourism, and Islamic finance—represents a rapidly expanding multi-trillion-dollar market that Nigeria is well positioned to access.

According to HACCS, the inclusion of halal industry considerations in high-level international talks signals Nigeria’s readiness to diversify its economy beyond oil, strengthen agro-industrial exports, and deepen participation in global value chains.

“HACCS applauds President Tinubu for acknowledging the strategic value of the halal industry within Nigeria’s broader economic diplomacy,” the organisation said. “Turkey is a key global player with advanced halal manufacturing capacity, certification systems, and export networks. This engagement opens doors for technology transfer, foreign investment, and market access for Nigerian halal-certified products.”

HACCS noted that Nigeria’s large Muslim population, expanding agricultural base, and growing small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs) provide a natural comparative advantage in halal agribusiness. The organisation said embedding halal cooperation into bilateral agreements could boost job creation, attract foreign direct investment (FDI), and enhance compliance with international quality and safety standards.

The group also urged relevant ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to translate the outcomes of the Turkey visit into practical policy actions, including strengthening domestic halal standards, supporting capacity building for local producers, and promoting internationally credible certification frameworks.

“HACCS stands ready to collaborate with government and private-sector stakeholders to ensure the halal industry becomes a structured, regulated, and globally competitive component of Nigeria’s economy,” the statement added.

HACCS concluded that the recognition of the halal industry at the level of international diplomacy reflects a growing understanding that faith-based compliance systems can align with secular economic policy to drive inclusive growth, export expansion, and sustainable development in Nigeria.
