Hackers target Dangote, Otedola in high-profile phone breach

Two of Nigeria’s most prominent businessmen, Aliko Dangote and Femi Otedola, have reportedly fallen victim to a major cyberattack after hackers breached their mobile phones within the past week.

According to sources close to both men, the intrusion was not limited to a single incident. While Otedola suffered one breach, Dangote’s device was compromised twice in just 48 hours, raising concerns about the scale and sophistication of the attack.

It remains unclear whether the billionaires have fully regained control of their devices, but insiders say the perpetrators have already issued financial demands.
“The hackers are asking for money from both men,” TheCable reported.

Dangote and Otedola, who have long described each other as “brothers”, maintain a well-known public bond. Their relationship has featured consistent mutual support — including Otedola’s presence when Dangote recently announced his plan to expand the Dangote Refinery from 650,000 barrels per day to 1.4 million.

Otedola, praising Dangote as “Africa’s pride”, said the refinery and other ventures are “legacy investments that will define generations”, adding that Nigerians will eventually own part of the project.

The First HoldCo Plc chairman, who authored the bestselling Making It Big, recently increased his stake in the group with the purchase of 64.87 million shares valued at N2.01 billion.

With the breach now under investigation, cybersecurity experts warn that the incident highlights rising risks facing high-profile individuals in Nigeria’s business sector.
