Hausa, Benin youths clash in Edo after killing of ‘Yahoo Boy’
Tension has enveloped Ogheghe community in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State following a violent clash between Hausa and Benin youths that left several persons injured.
The unrest reportedly erupted after the killing of a suspected internet fraudster, popularly known as Chizi Benz, who was allegedly stabbed to death by a Hausa youth during a dispute said to be linked to a failed transaction.
Though the exact cause of the altercation remains unclear, eyewitnesses told Daily Trust that the incident quickly escalated into a full-blown confrontation between members of both ethnic groups.
The killing of Chizi Benz sparked outrage among local youths, who took to the streets wielding dangerous weapons in what appeared to be a reprisal attack.

Sources said several Hausa residents, commonly referred to as ‘Abokis’, sustained injuries during the violence, while many others fled the area for safety.
The unrest reportedly spread to neighbouring communities, including Uwelu along the Siluko axis, forcing many Hausa traders and commercial motorcyclists to shut down their businesses and vacate the area.
Security operatives were deployed to the scene to restore order, with police officers firing tear gas to disperse the rampaging youths.
When contacted, the spokesman of the Edo State Police Command, Moses Yamu, confirmed the incident and said a detailed statement would be issued. He was yet to do so as of the time of filing this report.
