He has lost control of Kwankwasiya – NNPP faction mocks Kwankwaso
A faction of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has fired back at Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, accusing him of betrayal and asserting that he no longer holds sway over the Kwankwasiya Movement.
This follows Kwankwaso’s recent outburst at his Miller Road residence in Kano, where he labelled former NNPP members who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as “betrayers.”
Among those he criticised was Senator Abdulrahman Kawu, who represents Kano South and recently led a wave of defections to the APC.
Reacting in a statement on Monday, the NNPP’s National Chairman, Dr. Agbo Major, said Kwankwaso has no moral authority to speak on behalf of the party or condemn those choosing a different political path.
“Kwankwaso has been expelled from the NNPP alongside his loyalists, including Dr. Ahmed Ajuji. He cannot speak for a party he no longer belongs to,” Major said.

He clarified that the Kwankwasiya Movement was never a political party but merely a group absorbed into the NNPP in the lead-up to the 2023 elections.
His words: “The NNPP severed all ties with Kwankwaso after the elections. His attempt to hijack the party and undermine its leadership led to his expulsion.
“It is laughable that he is accusing others of betrayal, when he himself betrayed the trust of those who offered him a platform.”
He further stated that recent defections to the APC by members of the Kwankwasiya Movement clearly demonstrate that Kwankwaso no longer commands their loyalty.
“Kwankwaso has lost control of the Kwankwasiya Movement just like he failed in hijacking the NNPP. His political career effectively ended with his expulsion,” the NNPP chairman asserted.
Major called on Kwankwaso to either register his political party or seek to rejoin the APC—suggesting he approach APC National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Ganduje, for reabsorption as an “ordinary member.”
The NNPP also referenced a recent Federal High Court ruling that dismissed a suit filed by Kwankwaso loyalists seeking to challenge the legitimacy of the party’s current leadership under Founder Dr. Boniface Aniebonam and Chairman Dr. Agbo Major.
“Kwankwaso should accept reality and stop attacking those who have chosen a different path,” Major concluded.
