The accident occurred near Adamuz in Córdoba province when an Iryo high-speed train from Málaga to Madrid derailed and collided with an oncoming Renfe service bound for Huelva.
Officials say the derailment occurred on a recently renovated section of track, but the exact cause is still under investigation. Emergency responders, including firefighters, paramedics and police, worked through the night to evacuate survivors and recover victims, with many injured passengers taken to nearby hospitals in critical condition.
