Hit-and-Run Driver Kills Two Police Officers in Osun
OSOGBO, Nigeria – A devastating hit-and-run accident along the Osogbo/Gbongan road in the Oogi community has claimed the lives of two police officers, plunging the Osun State Police Command into mourning.
The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday, the eve of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, when a speeding Lexus car struck a motorcycle carrying the two officers. The driver immediately fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle, but a manhunt is now actively underway to track him down.
The Osun State Police Command has officially identified the deceased officers as Kehinde Adeleke and Lance Corporal Oluwatobiloba Odedina, aged 28. According to police sources, Lance Corporal Odedina was riding the motorcycle while his colleague, Adeleke, was the passenger when the Lexus vehicle rammed into them. Kehinde Adeleke died instantly at the crash scene, while Lance Corporal Odedina was rushed to a hospital in Osogbo but succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment. One of the deceased officers has since been buried in accordance with Islamic rites.

The Osun State Police Command’s spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday. “The two police operatives were travelling on a motorcycle when they got hit. One Lexus car hit them. Kehinde and Tobi are the two operatives involved,” Ojelabi said. He added that both the Lexus car and the motorcycle involved in the crash have been recovered and taken into police custody for forensic analysis. “We have launched a probe into the accident, and we are tracking the driver of the car. The vehicle and motorcycle involved have been recovered and taken to the station,” Ojelabi stated.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the fleeing driver, but the manhunt remains active across Osun State. Police are appealing to members of the public with any useful information to come forward. Note: This incident is unrelated to a separate event in March 2026 involving the arrest of Customs officers over a fatal shooting in Osun State.
