Hoodlums set Lagos market on fire during bloody clash
Hoodlums have set fire to part of popular Ile Epo Market, in the Alimosho LGA of Lagos State, leading to loss of many stalls and valuable goods.
This came during a fight that broke out over a disputed game of lotto claim, Newstrends learnt.
The fight which reportedly began on Wednesday night between a trader from the northern region of the country and the lotto vendor had degenerated into an ethnic squabble.
The trader who played the popular game was said to have won a certain amount of money.
However, when the trader walked to the lotto vendor to claim his money, there was a disagreement over the exact amount won.
The altercation between the two snowballed into a free-for-all which was hijacked by hoodlums.
Fire was set to a section of the market during the clash, leaving traders and customers scampering for safety. Many shops were looted and others burnt.
The fight continued on Thursday morning before riot police were mobilised to the scene.
All the shops in the market have been shut, with police officers patrolling the area to maintain law and order.
