The probe follows a Point of Privilege raised by Hon. Abdulsammad Dasuki (PDP, Sokoto) on Wednesday, who alleged that the gazetted tax laws did not reflect the content of the bills as debated, voted on, and passed by the National Assembly.
Dasuki told the House that, after carefully reviewing the Votes and Proceedings and harmonised versions of the tax bills, he discovered inconsistencies with the gazetted copies obtained from the Ministry of Information. He warned that circulating laws different from those duly passed would undermine the integrity of the legislature and violate constitutional provisions.
The Speaker assured lawmakers that the matter had been taken seriously and that the ad-hoc committee would scrutinize all relevant documents, including harmonised versions, votes, proceedings, and gazetted copies, to resolve the discrepancies and ensure transparency.
