Housewife allegedly beats stepdaughter to death in Bauchi

The Bauchi State police command has arrested a housewife for allegedly beating her step daughter to death.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner of Police, Auwal Musa Muhammad during a press conference on Tuesday when the command paraded different suspects..

According to the CP, the suspect, Khadija Adamu, aged 18, of Kandahar area of Bauchi metropolis, allegedly beat up her stepdaughter named “Hafsat Garba” ‘f aged 5yrs old, as a result of which she sustained serious injuries on her body.

According to police boss, on September 28,2023, one Abdulaziz Adamu, aged 38, of Kandahar area Bauchi, reported the incident at A’ Divisional Police Headquarters that the suspect beat the little girl on the same date at about 4:00 pm.

“Upon receipt of the report, a team of detectives led by the DPO swung into action, rushed to the scene and moved the victim to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) Bauchi for medical attention, where she was certified dead by the medical doctor,” Muhammad disclosed.

“Preliminary Investigation revealed that the suspect beat up the victim as a result of alleged pass-stood that spoiled her clothes and she sustained various degrees of injuries on her body.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the alleged offence against her without much argument.

“Investigation is still ongoing, after which the suspect will be charged to court for the established offence accordingly”

In a related development,a 14 year old pupil has survived an attack by a suspected ritualist.

The Commissioner of police disclosed that on September 27, at about 11:00pm, one Jibril Sarkin Ruwa, 40, of Kadalen Kanawa village Warji, reported the incident at Warji Divisional Police Headquarters.

According to the story, the suspect Dayyabu Yusuf, 39, of Tsangayan Jada inl, Jama’are LGA , lured the victim, Faruku Faisal of kiyawa LGA of Jigawa State via Tsangayan Mallam Faisal of the same address into the bush and attempted to kill him by strangulating him with a rope.

“But luckily, in the process, the victim escaped and raised an alarm which noticed the nearest folks and abetted the victim,”CP Muhammad said .

“On receipt of the information, a team of detectives led by CSP Ahmed Buba DPO Warji rushed to the scene and arrested the suspect, whereas, the victim was immediately rushed to General Hospital Warji for medical attention, where he was treated and discharged”,he said

“During interrogation, the defendant confessed to the offence of attempted Culpable Homicide, but denied that it was for ritual purposes, rather he had a misunderstanding with Mallam Faisal and that was why he wanted revenge on his pupils (Almajiri), a search was conducted at his residence, but nothing incriminating was found in his house.

“Investigation is in progress, after which the suspect will be charged to court for the established Offences upon conclusion of the investigation accordingly”
