How to buy 50kg bag of rice at N40,000 – FG
In an effort to address the ongoing food crisis in Nigeria, the Federal Government has announced plans to sell 50kg bags of rice at a subsidized rate of N40,000 to public servants.
This initiative aims to alleviate the economic strain on Nigerians affected by rising food costs.
The announcement was made via a letter from the Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-governmental Affairs, signed by the Director of Human Resources, Jaiyesimi Abimbola. According to the letter, public servants interested in purchasing the subsidized rice are required to complete a Google form available on the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) website.
The completed form should then be submitted to the Director of Human Resources for endorsement.
The letter outlined the process for purchasing and distributing the rice, which will be managed by designated officials. To ensure transparency, the chairman of the Joint Union Council of the ministry will act as an observer throughout the exercise.

“As part of the Federal Government’s efforts to alleviate the current food crisis in the country and its effects on the general population, I am directed to inform you that 50kg bags of rice will be sold at a subsidised rate of N40,000 only per bag to interested public servants in Abuja,” the letter stated.
For effective implementation, each staff member is entitled to purchase one bag of rice. However, two or more staff members may jointly pay for a bag to share among themselves. The letter also instructed department and unit heads to inform their staff about the details of this initiative.
In addition to this initiative for public servants, the Federal Government has established centers nationwide where Nigerians can purchase 50kg bags of rice at the same subsidized rate.
This move is part of a broader strategy by the Tinubu administration to improve living conditions for citizens. Minister of Information and National Orientation, Muhammed Idris, emphasized that this is one of several measures being implemented to ease the economic burden on Nigerians.
